Real-time imaging of your heart structure and function, performed by an accredited cardiac imaging specialist. Painless, radiation-free and 100% covered by Medicare.

An echocardiogram (or "echo") uses ultrasound waves to create real-time images of your heart. It allows Dr Grewal to assess the size of your heart chambers, how well the heart muscle is contracting, the function of heart valves, and blood flow patterns within the heart.
This is one of the most important and commonly used tests in cardiology. It can help diagnose heart failure, valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathy, pericardial disease, congenital heart defects and many other conditions.
The test is performed on-site at our Sydenham, Bundoora or Williams Landing clinic by Dr Grewal, who holds specialist cardiac imaging accreditation. It is painless, does not use radiation, and is fully bulk billed through Medicare.

Here is what happens before, during and after your echocardiogram.
You will be asked to undress from the waist up and lie on your left side on an examination bed. A small amount of gel is applied to the chest.
A transducer (small handheld device) is placed on your chest to capture ultrasound images of your heart from different angles. You may hear the sound of blood flow through the heart.
The gel is wiped off and you can get dressed. Dr Grewal will review the images and discuss findings with you. A detailed report is sent to your GP.
Follow these steps to ensure your echocardiogram appointment runs smoothly.
All you need is a valid Medicare card and a referral from your GP. All cardiology referrals accepted. We handle the billing directly with Medicare — there is no claim to lodge and nothing to pay.
